Hi all

I am an undergraduate student trying to figure out how to make a script for measuring vocal rise time in an acoustic signal. According to Shrivastav (1999) vocal rise time can be used as a measure of onset, specifically hard glottal attack (HGA). In my study, I am attempting to determine whether onset changes over time following vocal training, and I need a way for Praat to analyse this with the least human error possible - hence my need for a script that does the following:

(a) Take the initial n ms of each file (say first 200 ms)
(b) Compute the RMS (root mean square) energy using specific window size (e.g. 20-50 ms) and window shift (?) (e.g. 25-50%)
(c) Find mean/maximum value of the RMS curve
(d) Find the first point that exceeds a specific value and use this as the starting point (e.g. 10% of maximum)
(e) Find the first point that exceeds a second specific value and use this as the end point (e.g. 90% of the maximum)
(f) Find the duration between the start and end points

If anyone is able and willing to write a script to do this, that would be greatly appreciated! Please contact me, Loren, at lapo4207-5LoHqUB+***@public.gmane.org if you are interested. Possibility of reimbursement.
